This holiday offers the perfect introduction to Neotropical birds and other wildlife with a non-stop cavalcade of hummingbirds, tanagers, honeycreepers and other exotics viewed from comfortable surroundings. Watching the tropical forest wake from the verandah of the Asa Wright Centre on our first morning of this tour provides a perfect taste of the pleasures in store as we begin an 8-night stay at this legendary Centre.
The ensuing days provide the perfect introduction to Neotropical wildlife with a non-stop cavalcade of hummingbirds, tanagers, honeycreepers and other exotics, whilst excursions from the Centre allow us to explore more of Trinidad and see a diverse mix of species from gaudy Scarlet Ibis and shorebirds to raptors, toucans and antbirds. An added bonus in April is the possibility of seeing Leatherback Turtles on a protected beach, as the females haul themselves ashore at nightfall to lay their eggs.
After an action-packed stay on Trinidad, we conclude the tour on neighbouring Tobago where more superlative birdwatching awaits, although the seductive charms of a beach-side hotel and the attractions of a coral reef may prove a diversion from the wildlife during our time there!
Naturetrek’s 14-day Trinidad & Tobago tour provides an unbeatable introduction to Neotropical birdwatching, yet the unhurried style of Caribbean life forms the ideal framework for a very relaxing holiday.
